Antique Restoration
My interest in restoring brass antiques all started with the little bird you see here. While visiting a friends home, I saw it lying on it's side and it immediately struck me as the perfect piece to try out some of my burgeoning machining skills on. The bird was polished beak to tail and a solid brass stand was fabricated to screw into it's belly.
Brass has continued to attract me due to it's beautiful color that isn't just skin deep. This makes it highly amenable to modification through either machining or surfacing without risk of losing it's color. The patina it develops over time if unvarnished is often desirable, but I tend to prefer the gorgeous gold it shows when nicely polished.
